The Agribusiness ROI Calculator is the general calculator built to handle any agricultural business: crop farming, livestock, poultry, aquaculture, agroforestry, agro-processing, or a mixed operation. It won’t model the biology of any one enterprise as precisely as the dedicated calculators (Goat, Poultry, Moringa, Maize) do, but it’s flexible enough to run numbers on almost anything agricultural, including businesses none of the other calculators cover.
Questions it answers
- How much capital does this agribusiness need to start?
- What’s my ROI, profit margin, and how efficiently am I using my assets (ROA, asset turnover)?
- How long until I recover my investment?
- Is this business financially viable, under different assumptions?
How to read your results
Because it’s general-purpose, you enter your expected production and selling price directly rather than the calculator deriving it from detailed biological formulas — if you need that level of detail for livestock, poultry, or crops specifically, use the dedicated calculator instead.
Two metrics appear here that you won’t see elsewhere in the suite: ROA (Return on Assets) tells you how much profit you’re generating relative to everything your business owns (land, buildings, machinery, livestock, cash) that’s a way of asking “am I using what I have efficiently?” Asset Turnover tells you how much revenue you generate per unit of asset value — higher generally means you’re getting more business activity out of the same asset base.
You can also enter up to 5 separate revenue streams (useful for a business that sells more than one thing) and toggle between Conservative, Expected, and Optimistic scenarios to see a quick range of outcomes rather than a single fixed number.
